Loyal Democrats show up for Amy Brooks

Columbia MD-It was a full house last night at The Other Barn, a Columbia landmark, where Amy Brooks, candidate for Delegate, hosted a fundraising event.   Amy is currently the only candidate filed to run for the House of Delegates in District 13 which comprises large parts of Howard County including the towns of Columbia, Clarksville, Elkridge, Laurel, Maple Lawn, River Hill, Savage, and Scaggsville.

It was a festive atmosphere where people shared cookies and hot chocolate and listened to music.  “I like that all of Amy’s events are family friendly,” said Emery Clark, a longtime supporter and friend.   There were lots of children playing and enjoying the home baked cookies made by Amy’s mom Susie Brehm.

Amy spoke to the crowd and emphasized the issues of most concern to the voters in Howard County.   First and always, Amy talked about education and stated, “my experience as an educator in three different Maryland school systems, gives me a unique perspective on the legislation needed in our state.”   Amy also mentioned the economic issues of affordable housing and a living wage.   Amy lamented that “most of her colleagues who work in Howard County can’t afford to live in Howard County and that hurts our sense of community.”

Aside from the family friendly atmosphere and discussion of the issues, Amy is on track to raise enough money to communicate with the voters of district 13.   Amy has several smaller house parties scheduled and are gearing up to a larger fundraiser at Busboys and Poets on January 12th.   “We are on track to meet all of our fundraising goals,” said Rashida George, Amy’s campaign manager.
