Open Seat in Maryland Delegate Race (District 13)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Columbia MD-The race for the House of Delegates District 13 just became a little more interesting with the retirement of long serving Delegate Shane E. Pendergrass.   Delegate Pendergrass, who has served in the Maryland General Assembly since 1995, announced today that she will not seek re-election in 2022.

Amy Brooks, who announced her candidacy last month will now be running for an open seat, making her chances of election very strong.  Amy has been on the campaign trail for a few months and has support from many people in the community.  “Amy is a recognized leader of the Oakland Mills community and a vocal advocate for education so she’ll be receiving strong support from our village,” said Jessica Mahajan who began working closely with Amy at the start of the pandemic when they founded their non-profit. “She’s been a respected teacher for years, always going above and beyond to help fellow staff, students, and families,” continued Mahajan. Amy and her family live in the Oakland Mills neighborhood and her husband Brian grew up in Columbia.

“I am honored to follow in the footsteps of such a dedicated leader as Delegate Pendergrass,” stated Brooks when she first heard the news that Pendergrass is not seeking re-election.   “Her [Pendergrass’] service to Howard County is admirable and her tenure is remarkable.” said Amy.

Amy has been out meeting voters, raising money and hosting campaign events.   “We have over a dozen house parties scheduled for the next few weeks and now that this is an open seat we expect many more people will join our campaign.” said campaign manager Rashida George.

Amy is hosting a fundraiser at The Other Barn on December 6, 2021 and at Busboys and Poets on January 12, 2022.
